Memories of life, good memories of the past are the tiny things that help us to live our life smoothly, happily, easily. Childhood memories are being treated as the best memory of one’s life by the many. Usually, a huge percentage of childhood memory shares with childhood playmates. A childhood playmate is obviously the best partner of childhood, boyhood, youth, and till one’s death. My childhood playmate was my paternal cousin named Sagor.
I came to know Sagor at the age of 5 or 6. I cannot recall everything of our first met. He was born in Dashmile, Dinajpur whereas we lived in Dhaka. He and his family came to Dhaka when I was approximately 4 years old. But they came to our grand parent's house 1 or 2 years later. We used to live jointly with other uncle’s family except Sagor's. Being the youngest among all of my cousins, I was treated with some extra love from every family member. But as soon as Sagor came, he was being treated more lovely than to me. I felt jealous that time and showed him a knife to fear him. That’s a funny memory. And it is more interesting that we became playmates right from that day. We were the same age, just 40 days’ difference.
As time passed, we became close to closer. We played with toys (especially cars) together, played cricket-football-marbles together, went to school together, read poems together, learned cycling together and so many. I learned to play 16 Bead from him. With my childhood playmate Sagor, once I put a fire in a tinny jungle just to play. But in a short time, that fire became bigger and we informed our elders. We did so many stupid things like this and being punished.
My childhood playmate Sagor was the same as my nature, joyful, always happy. We became like a soul in two bodies. We became closer to closest. He had the power to change my mood instantly on a bad day. We did so many things together, laughter is one of those. If it started somehow, never stopped. We never peed our pants from laughing but it can be said that we laughed like that, really.
Sagor knew how to make me happy, knew how to share thoughts, forgave when we mess up, always supported me on my decisions. Obviously, he is my best friend, the best supporter. He wants only the best for me as I want for him as well. He was a boy to follow. His attitudes, thoughts, manners always fascinate me. I tried to change myself adopting his etiquettes and manners.
Yeah, Time flies, time flew, we are still good friends. But far away from one another. When I am continuing my studies, attending university classes, then he is living abroad, working hard to earn for his family. Time flies, geographical distance increases. But the memory remains, friendship remains. We still hang out over the phone. We are still best friends. My childhood playmate is my best partner for my lifetime.
